Mesopotamia Unit
In this unit students will be taking a very close look at Geography and the impact geography has on peoples lives. Mesopotamia, lies in between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, and is considered to be both the fertile crescent and cradle of civilization, as it was the first we know about. This civilization was only allowed to prosper because of its natural geography and human's ability to manipulate it in order to allow for agriculture. Students will also get a glimpse at the first form of writing. While they do, they will also be trying their own firsts with writing, using evidence to make an argument. Throughout the unit, students will be using this skill(the evidence being, the benefits of geographical features) to create a city-state and convince others to move there in a multi paragraph letter.
